The Chinese Embassy in Romania sent a firm message after the visit of the President of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, to Taiwan, accusing “serious violations of the one-China policy”.
“There is only one China in the world. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. The Government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate one that represents the whole of China,” the Chinese Embassy in Bucharest said in a Facebook post.
“(The principle of one China) was clearly recognized by Resolution 2758 of the UN General Assembly in 1971. 181 countries in the world, including Romania, have established diplomatic relations with China based on the principle of one China”, it is also stated in the message.
The spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Romania commented on Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan on Tuesday. At the end, he also had a message for Romania.
“China and Romania share a traditional friendship. We are willing to make joint efforts with Romania to contribute to a more substantial development of the Broad Partnership of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries based on the principle of one China”, the ambassador said.
The full reaction of the Chinese ambassador:
“Ignoring China’s strong opposition and solemn representations, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan, thus seriously violating the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, seriously undermining the political foundation of relations China-US, seriously violating China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and seriously undermining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
There is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing the whole of China. This is the basic content of the one China principle, which has become the consensus of the international community and the basic norm of international relations, which was clearly recognized by UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 in 1971. 181 countries in the world have established diplomatic relations with China based on the one China principle.
The one-China principle is the premise and foundation for the establishment and development of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. As an integral part of the US Federal Government, the US Congress is inherently bound to strictly adhere to the US government’s one-China policy and refrain from any official exchanges with China’s Taiwan region. Pelosi is the current leader of the US Congress and her visit and activities in Taiwan in any form and for any reason at any time during her term are serious violations of the one-China policy promised by the US government, major political challenges in the escalation official exchanges and substantive US-Taiwan relations, as well as connivance and support for separatist forces advocating “Taiwan independence”. US duplicity on the Taiwan issue and causing trouble in the Taiwan Strait will only further ruin US national credibility. The resolute defense of national sovereignty and territorial integrity is the firm will of the more than 1.4 billion Chinese people, and the realization of the complete reunification of the motherland is the common aspiration and sacred duty of all Chinese people. China will certainly take all necessary measures to resolutely protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the US and separatist forces supporting “Taiwan independence” will be solely responsible for all consequences.
We urge the US side to stop playing the “Taiwan card” and use Taiwan to control China, stop interfering in Taiwan’s affairs and interfere in China’s internal affairs, stop supporting separatist forces that support “Taiwan independence ” in any form, stop distorting and taking the one-China principle out of context, must take credible measures to strictly adhere to the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-US joint communiqués with practical actions, effectively implement the commitments to the “Four No’s” taken by US leaders (i.e. does not seek a “new Cold War”; does not seek to change China’s system; revitalization of its alliances is not against China; does not support “Taiwan independence”; does not seek conflict with China) and do not go further and further down this wrong and dangerous path.
China and Romania share a traditional friendship. We are willing to make joint efforts with Romania to contribute to a more substantial development of the Broad Partnership of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries based on the principle of one China.”
