The National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin” announces the national tour “On the road to Christmas” from December 4 to 19 and the performance of 9 extraordinary performances in 7 cities: Cluj-Napoca, Târgu Mureș, Timișoara, Craiova, Suceava, Iași and Bucharest . Tickets to the extraordinary performances “On the Christmas Road” are available online on the Bilete.ro platform – https://www.bilete.ro/madrigal-pe-drumul-craciunului/

For almost 60 years, for Romanians, the sound of Christmas has been the voice of the Madrigal.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Christmas with one of our best-loved shows. “On the Christmas Road” is part of the series of special events that we have launched in recent years, which join the special sound of the Madrigal Choir with dramatic texts relevant to the emotion of the winter holidays. If the madrigalists have been nicknamed by the public the Angels of Christmas, then it is essential for us to recreate this magic every year. But this edition of the winter holidays has a special meaning for us, because it kicks off the Madrigal 60 anniversary project. From now on, through more than 30 events, we will mark the 6 decades since the Madrigal has been an essential point of culture Romanian, of cultural diplomacy and universal sound heritage.” – said Emil Pantelimon, manager of the “Madrigal – Marin Constantin” National Chamber Choir and director of the show.

“On the Road to Christmas” national tour schedule:

• Cluj-Napoca, Romanian National Opera – December 4 and 5

• Târgu Mureș, National Theater – December 7, 2022

• Timișoara, “Mihai Eminescu” National Theater – December 10, 2022

• Craiova, “Marin Sorescu” National Theater – December 11, 2022

• Suceava, “Matei Vișniec” Municipal Theater – December 14, 2022

• Iasi, Romanian National Opera – December 15, 2022

• Bucharest, Bucharest National Opera – December 19 and 20, 2022.

Anna Ungureanu, the principal conductor of the National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin” and Cezar Verlan, the second conductor, have prepared for the 9 performances in the tour a program designed to create an organic connection between drama and hope, between classic and modern, between the tradition of Romanian and international carols.

The ideational thread captured in the concept show “On the Christmas Road” talks about the family and its complex connections. It chronicles in sound and words the non-idealized joy of real life, where social disruptions or historical dissonances are inevitable trials that polish and strengthen what is fundamental and immutable in a family – love. It is a history in sound and light of those alienated, banished by history, but who keep the hope of finding themselves through the luminous symbol of Christmas – which becomes that magical family time, the essential “home” in which we all find ourselves.

The direction and script of the Extraordinary Show “On the Christmas Road” are signed by Emil Pantelimon, and the scenography by Vladimir Turturică. The selection of dramatic texts was made by Mădălin Guruianu and will take the spectators through a dynamic emotional sequence, starting from “Singing the Songs”, up to poems by Eugen Jebeleanu, Lucian Blaga and Costache Ioanid and texts signed by Khaled Hosseini, Saint Teresa of Avila and Paulo Coelho.
