Staff from UMFST, trained in Health Economics – Mures News, Targu Mures News

Teaching staff of the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology (UMFST) “George Emil Palade” from Târgu Mureș participated, between September and October 2022, in a series of workshops in the field of health economics supported by specialists from the universities prestigious European schools from the Netherlands, Great Britain and Italy.

According to the UMFST Blog, the activities are part of a training program for teachers who will, in turn, form the future students of the postgraduate program in health economics that is being developed within the project POCU/918/4/8/149892 “Postgraduate program training in health economics [HEALTHESIS]”, implemented by UMFST Târgu Mureș (partner), together with UMF “Carol Davila” from Bucharest (beneficiary) and UMF “Iuliu Hațieganu” Cluj-Napoca (partner).

“The first workshop entitled “Health system performance management to increase the value of health care services”, held on September 12, was led by Prof. Nicolaas Sieds Klazinga from the Academic Medical Center of the University of Amsterdam and focused on aspects of health systems performance management. Topics such as economic evaluation, measurement of health outcomes and expenditures, as well as types of economic evaluation models were addressed in the workshop held on September 16 “The Economic Evaluation of Healthcare Technologies and Interventions: An Introduction of Fundamental Concepts and Approaches” , led by Prof. Katharina Hauck and Prof. Adrian Gheorghe from the School of Public Health at Imperial College London,” said the quoted source.

At the same time, on September 23, the workshop “Pricing and Reimbursement Decision Models in European Countries” was held, supported by Dr. Silvia Coretti, from Sapienza Università di Roma, who spoke about the implications for pricing and reimbursement decisions in various European countries, the management of medical technologies in the hospital and the role of HTN units, as well as the sustainability of treatments.

In the last workshop entitled “Designing a National Health System”, held on October 3 and supported by Prof. Debora Di Gioacchino, from the Department of Economic Policy and Health Economics at the Sapienza Università di Roma, the discussions focused on issues regarding the role of public health and types of health systems.

“The specialization of teaching staff in health economics and the development for the first time in Romania of a postgraduate program in this field meets the training needs of specialists and decision-makers in the field of health and will lead to the improvement of skills in the use of modern management techniques, economic evaluation and statistics applied in the field of health, used on a large scale within the post-graduate programs with a specific focus on Health Economics in international reference universities”, said university associate.
