Salaries fell in July in Romania. Where are the highest incomes

The average net salary and average gross earnings were down in July compared to the previous month, data from the National Institute of Statistics show.

The highest salaries are still recorded in the IT industry, and the lowest in Horeca.

The average gross salary was 6,405 lei in July, 8 lei (-0.1%) lower than the previous month, while the average net salary was 3,975 lei, down slightly, respectively by 2 lei (-0.1%).

The highest values ​​of the average net salary were recorded in information technology service activities (including IT service activities), of 9,549 lei, and the lowest in hotels and restaurants (2,273 lei).

According to the INS, in July 2022, in most activities in the economic sector, the level of the average net salary increased as a result of the granting of occasional bonuses (quarterly, half-yearly, annual bonuses or for special performances), rights in kind and financial aid, amounts of the net profit from other funds (including securities). Also, the increases in average net salary were due to production achievements or higher receipts (depending on contracts/projects).

Thus, the most significant increases in the average net salary, at the level of CAEN Rev.2 sections/divisions, were recorded as follows: in storage and auxiliary activities for transport (+6.6%), in service activities ancillary to extraction, production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning, manufacturing of clothing, repair, maintenance and installation of machinery and equipment, agriculture, hunting and ancillary services, air transport, other extractive activities (among 4 % and 6%); in forestry and logging (including fisheries and aquaculture), research and development, extraction of crude oil and natural gas, tanning and finishing of hides and skins (including the manufacture of travel and leather goods, harness and footwear; preparation and dyeing of furs), printing and reproduction on recording media, beverage manufacturing, textile manufacturing, financial intermediation (except for insurance and pension fund activities), information technology service activities (including computer service activities), metal construction and metal products industry ( excluding machines, equipment and installations) – between 2% and 4%.

Where wages have fallen

On the other hand, significant decreases in the average net salary were recorded in publishing activities (-14.2%), the manufacture of machines, machinery and equipment nca, the manufacture of computers and electronic and optical products, the manufacture of coke oven products and of the products obtained from the processing of crude oil, the capture, treatment and distribution of water, the extraction of upper and lower coal, the manufacture of tobacco products (between 4% and 7%) and in the extraction of metallic ores, auxiliary activities for financial intermediation, insurance activities and funds pensions, performance, cultural and recreational activities, waste water collection and treatment (between 1.5% and 4%).

The INS data reveals that, in the budgetary sector, there were decreases in the average net salary compared to the previous month in: education (-6.6%, mainly as a result of the reduction of the amounts representing the hourly payment of teaching staff during school vacation), in public administration (-1.5%), respectively in health and social assistance (-1%).
