Flights to Hungary, from “Transylvania” Airport Târgu Mureș – News from Mures, News Targu mures

For two months, starting on September 5, we will be able to travel three times a week with Aeroexpress Regional flights that will connect Budapest with Cluj-Napoca and Debrecen with Târgu Mureș and Cluj-Napoca. The partner of the Hungarian startup airline Aeroexpress Regional is BASe Airlines, which has been on the market for 31 years and has accumulated considerable experience in the field of regional flights in Europe.
According to the press release of Aeroexpress Légiforgalmi Zrt., regional flights have been an uncovered area of the Hungarian aviation market for a decade, therefore, with an introductory period, travelers’ reactions will be evaluated, thus a new joint-stock company was formed together with the BASe company Airlines Zrt. established in 1991 with 100% Hungarian capital. The company with the brand name Aeroexpress Regional, in cooperation with the managing company of Debrecen International Airport, is preparing a two-month introductory operation starting from September, creating a long-awaited air link between the cities of Transylvania and Hungary, for which it has already started ticket sales.
The flights will leave on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on the route Budapest – Cluj-Napoca – Debreţin – Târgu Mureș – Debreţin – Cluj-Napoca – Budapest, so they will simultaneously serve the passenger traffic of several cities, flying on one route special “double W”. Ticket prices vary from 40 to 90 euros each way and it is a curiosity in itself that the flight schedule connecting Budapest to Cluj-Napoca allows round trips that can be completed in one working day, which is a particularly valuable alternative for business travelers. Passengers from Cluj-Napoca can make a similar quick visit to Debrețin, while there will be a round trip between Debrețin and Târgu Mureș.
The founding co-owner of Aeroexpress Regional is BASe Airlines, which in the past also participated in the operation of Malév’s regional flights with its three Embraer 120 aircraft. successful Italian, Croatian, Danish and Spanish tourism and public service tasks, their company has been operating regular flights to Finland for many years at the request of the Finnish state. Since the beginning, the company’s central base has been the Ferenc Liszt International Airport in Budapest, and in the last 17 years its aircraft have spent more than 23 thousand hours in the air and during this period approximately 27 thousand landings were made without incident .
The Aeroexpress group was founded by Dániel Somogyi-Tóth, known to the general public as a conductor, organist and even as the leader of the Ferihegy Aeropark Aviation Museum, which has become one of the most popular thematic experience centers in the country. As the announcement points out: together with its partners, in recent years they have invested intensive work in the development and have focused in particular on areas that are missing from Hungary’s current flight capacity – in this framework they recently carried out the first flights with seaplane on Balaton and Danube. Dániel Somogyi-Tóth drew attention to the fact that Aeroexpress Regional – complementing the services of airlines operating European flights – wants to offer an alternative that can mean a step forward in connecting destinations in the region located at a sufficient distance, but which are difficult to reach by road or by rail. It is relevant that before the pandemic there were over 60 regional airlines operating in Europe, which for example in 2017 transported 77 million passengers, making approximately one million flights on 2700 routes.
Among the founding owners we can also find the producer Dr. Dániel Vadász, so it can be said that behind the new emerging Hungarian airline brand, along with aeronautics specialists with extensive experience, a remarkable management was also formed. The co-founder emphasizes in his statement: since in recent years BASe Airlines has participated in the development of regional air traffic in several European countries, it is a logical and obvious step for Aeroexpress Regional to cooperate with them in the development of regional air traffic in Hungary. – I can say, on behalf of all colleagues involved in development, that this project is one of the most important commitments in our lives. Our company started with
the headquarters in Debrețin, a city with which several members of the management have many connections and which is located in the geographical center of the Carpathian basin and as the largest city in the Hungarian province, has a prominent role from a cultural and logistical point of view. This heightened role will be all the more important in the coming years, as the ongoing investments will bring – in addition to economic development – a significant demographic growth, the founder added.
The Brazilian-made Embraer 120 ER turboprop passenger aircraft used by the airline was developed specifically for the efficient and economical operation of short-haul regional flights. It has a range of 1750 km and the fuselage length and wingspan are both 20 meters. The corresponding cruising speed of 552 km/h is provided by two Pratt&Whitney engines of 1,800 horsepower each, and the maximum cruising altitude of the aircraft is 8,500 meters.
During the introduction of the Aeroexpress Regional brand, special attention will be paid to public relations: the Embraer aircraft would have been one of the participants in the air parade postponed from August 20, together with the seaplane of the group of companies. However, according to the plans, those interested will be able to see the Aeroexpress aircraft in several places in the near future; Aeropark, the partner of the group of companies, plans to include the airline in its popular educational activities.
The historical name Aeroexpress evokes one of the first airlines in Hungary: being founded in 1922, as an innovative brand, from 1923 it operated seaplane flights from the center of Budapest to Vienna, thus being one of the first airlines in the world. Thanks to this, next year we will be able to celebrate 100 years of Hungarian international public aviation.
